Fuji Television’s International Department has renewed its disaster information booklet (Safety Information Booklet/SIB) for foreign visitors in Japan, the first of its kind produced by a commercial television station in Spring 2019. This time in addition to the booklet, a new web version has been launched to further improve its convenience for foreign visitors.
In light of the postponement of the ‘Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games’ to this summer, it provides information for the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s website on COVID-19, which is easily accessible for foreigners visiting Japan. And for those who do not speak Japanese, a “Point-and-Speak Phrases” section has been compiled, which supports users to immediately communicate in Japanese of the things one wants to express in their native language, in cases of illness, disaster, or crime related situations. There is also information on free Wi-Fi service that can be used during an emergency, and a personal data section where foreign visitors in Japan can voluntarily enter their own personal information such as blood type, allergies, and medical history.
In addition, considering the fact that most foreign visitors are smartphone and tablet users, the contents of the booklet are now also available on the web too. The web version allows users to access breaking news information on earthquakes and tsunamis linked to information issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency. And the booklet version of the “Point-and-Speak Phrases ” has been enhanced for immediacy and convenience, with Japanese voice sounds that can be played by simply tapping on the part of the booklet that one wants to express.
