Fuji Television’s news crew has departed today aboard Japanese Icebreaker Shirase from Tokyo International Cruise Terminal heading for Antarctica with the 64th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE-64).
A sending-off ceremony was held today. This is the first time for Fuji Television to accompany the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition which is now heading for Syowa Station (expected to arrive on December 23) to begin observations and research.
The team will research weather observations and topographical surveys by the 64th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition, as well as analyzing the mechanisms of rapid melting of the ice sheet. It’s going to be a close coverage of various observations and research.
Fuji Television’s mascot character Gachapin, the weathercaster for the news program ‘Live News it!’ also attended the ceremony today to see them off. A special program on this is also scheduled for broadcast in Spring 2023.
