From “Code Blue - 3rd Season”

Yui Aragaki

Yui Aragaki, who is one of the most popular actress currently in Japan, takes the leading role in Fuji TV's eagerly anticipated Monday night Summer drama series "Code Blue - 3rd Season." As an actress loved by people of all ages, she discusses about some of her challenges and triumphs, as she embarks on a fresh new challenge as one of the main leaders for the Code Blue medical team, Megumi Shiraishi.

Q

How did you first react when you first heard about Code Blue 3rd-Season going into production?

A

I’ve regularly had the chance to frequently meet up with the cast and staff members from Code Blue. At these gatherings, the producers always told me that they wanted to make another season. Even though it’s been a while since the last season, I always believed that they would do another season. However, as I knew the complexities of getting the cast members together, and the storyline too, this was all like an imaginary dream for me. When these came true, and we were all able to get together, I was so surprised and at the same time happy. But I think that simply ‘looking forward,’ is not enough for a production such as this. I feel that they gave us a good new opportunity at the right timing. In the drama, we get to see the doctors improving themselves, and at the same time, I think that the cast members are also able to grow too. So, I decided to face up to the drama with all this preparedness in mind.

Q

Do you feel any pressure at all?

A

Of course. When the 3rd Season was confirmed, I started watching the episodes from the previous seasons, and I was able to reassure myself about the true greatness of the drama series. This is why I think that many enjoyed the drama. When I think about the feelings of everyone who are looking forward to the new season, it feels so exciting.

Q

It seems that Code Blue is having an influence on people that work in the medical field, as well as those who are aiming to enter it?

A

When I heard that the drama is influencing these kinds of people, I feel so happy as it means that we’re able to help them one way or another. I have even heard that Code Blue has influenced one way or another, the number of “Doctor Heli” in Japan.

Q

What do you think is the main goal for Megumi Shiraishi in the 3rd Season?

A

I think it’s the idea of being able to find her own style, as a staff leader and as a commander among the team. Megumi is required to support and train new members in the medical team. While doing this, it’s important to lead the group, but at the same time, stay at the center to make sure that everyone remains united. This is the same for any other work environments, right? I think that the viewers will feel the same too.

Q

What are the things that you found challenging in the last season, and also are there any areas that you would like to continue into the new season.

A

The previous seasons were both difficult (lol). I would like Megumi’s career to continue from the previous season. Such as the improvement of her treatment for patients in a technical sense. The medical scene is very complex; however, I hope that I would be able to act out the character in a way that shows Megumi’s growth as a character. I’m also looking forward to the conversations between the five of us, that is away from the medical scene. Like, how it will be linked from the last season? Or maybe we could feel some changes after the 7-year time lag, or rather nothing has changed?

Q

Is it the feeling among the characters?

A

The difficulty for this depends on the scene. Like, where everyone should sit or stand. These kind of areas affects how we make ourselves look, so we always discussed about these points with the director in the last season too. For example, one character may not stand next to a specific character, but then he or she may do so when the distance between the characters are supposed to be closer. How these kinds of points will turn out is quite interesting. It’s interesting to see how things will change, as the story progresses. I hope that the viewers can see through these kinds of relationships.
