Looking ahead to the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, a new project has been added to the International Department’s “OMOTENASHI NIPPON PROJECT,” which aims to stimulate its international inbound strategy. “OMOTENASHI” literally translates to hospitality.
As the Games draw nearer, international visitors coming to Japan are expected to increase. With this background in mind, the International Department at Fuji Television has set up a new video service, which provides many useful tips on Japanese etiquette. The new video service, “Japanese Manners” will be available on Fuji Television’s official YouTube channel, “Fuji TV International,” from Friday, April 20th.
In the episodes, Japanese sumo comedian, AKATSU introduces many kinds of Japanese manners for various situations in the style of a quiz. As the first batch of the series, the first two episodes are “Useful tips for when you are having a meal in Japan” and “Useful tips for various public situations.”
Featuring many kinds of Japanese manners, such as the ways which it is fine to slurp noodles in Japan and also the do’s and don’ts for using cellphones on Japanese trains, the episodes introduce many kinds of Japanese etiquette in English, which are sure to astonish viewers worldwide due to cultural differences.
The service has been designed, so that foreign visitors will be able to make the most out of their stay in Japan. In the future, the service hopes to become a series covering many of Japan’s popular tourist hotspots and public facilities. And, it may also be considered in other languages too.
