Q
So you play the character Akira Inami in the drama. Could you tell us a bit about him?
A
You’ll probably realize when you have watched all the episodes, but Akira has a fairly wounded heart. That’s why there’s a“thrill junkie”side to him, and he’s a risk taker who wouldn’t really care even if he dies. I think he used to be a more positive person though. After joining the Special Security Squad, and having to face up to various contradictory situations, I think that Akira’s suspicious feeling towards “justice” may be increasing more and more.
Q
Akira, now and then throws himself into a “serious relationship”?
A
The reason he occasionally falls into momentary relationships, maybe due to the wound that he possesses within himself. That’s why I think that it’s difficult for him to have a serious relationship with someone. However, he will meet a woman in the future, and this might turn things around for him. I wonder how things will change for Akira, once he finds his own comfort zone. I hope the viewers can support him down this road too!
Q
There’s a lot of action scenes in the drama which are kind of aggressive, but interesting. Does the style of combat differ depending on the characters?
A
Akira and the team uses a special combat technique called “Kali Silat”. As he’s fighting, things can get a little enjoyable for him. However, when it’s tricky for Akira to use his hands during combat, sometimes his style might become a little rough. But, when you compare the ways Akira and Saburo Tamaru (Hidetoshi Nishijima) fight, Saburo’s combat style may seem a little more cruel. Maybe, there’s still a “sweet side” to Akira too.
Q
How did the filming go with Hidetoshi Nishijima?
A
He always seems serious and stoic when he’s acting, however, off set, he’s always smiling and seems to be enjoying himself. Hidetoshi is actually quite charming along with the other actors, like Toru Nomaguchi and Tetsushi Tanaka. I would often see Hidetoshi, Toru and Tetsushi in high spirits off set.
Q
Are there any other interesting episodes you could share with us?
A
Well, on the desk of Rei Oyama (Yuko Araki), there were some gummy candies used for filming, and Tetsushi was secretly eating them. When I realized, the producers were eating them too. I found this quite amusing.
Q
What are the attractive points of Kazuki Kaneshiro’s scripts?
A
As a result of a lot of research, he has attained a wide range of information, but on the other hand, he also capitalizes on the entertainment aspect too. I think that this drama is sort of an “anti-social faction” drama. Toru Nomaguchi who plays Yusuke Kashii expresses this in a good way, in that Kazuki Kaneshiro manages to express urban myths, as something that exists. And from these kinds of Kazuki Kaneshiro’s works, we should attain something from this. Maybe we could raise a few questions based on the realities of the country that we live in? Furthermore, I think that we were just about able to air this drama, with this kind of storyline at the 9:00 P.M. time slot. The 5 members of the Special Security Squad should be careful, as taking a step wrong may lead to a situation of being mistakenly perceived as a terrorist. As the members each possess special abilities unique to each character, they have to be careful. In the end, the squad members will be made to do all the dirty work. Above all, they will come to realize a sense of conflict towards justice, which involves the process of risking their lives. I hope you catch the series to find all of this out!
