Claude Monet: Journey to Series Paintings

About

Rare works from Claude Monet collections around the world!
A key figure of Impressionism Claude Monet (1840-1926) sought a dialogue with nature and continued his quest to capture landscapes which change freely depending on the season, weather, and time of day, as he perceived it at the “moment.”

After his works of “Haystacks,” Monet gained international fame as an artist of "series paintings". He depicted ever-changing scenes of waterfront landscapes, buildings, and meadows, and presented a new way of painting through the idea of a series. In the flower garden of Giverny, he worked on the “Water Lilies” series which greatly influenced later artists.

The year 2024 marks 150 years since the first Impressionist Exhibition was held in Paris in 1874. To celebrate this momentous occasion, this exhibition will be held at venues in Tokyo and Osaka from late October 2023 thru to early May 2024. The exhibition will introduce a variety of Monet's works which include portraits that marked the turning point for his idea of painting in series. Original works that portray his exploration of motifs and methods of expression that led to his ways will also be on display.

From “Haystacks” to “Water Lilies” all of which have become synonymous with Monet, many of his works will be introduced and enjoy the magnificent world of his art.
