  • Fuji TV and The Story Lab bring “The Spin” to the international marketplace for the first time at Mipcom 2021

Fuji Television Network, Inc., and Global production and distribution studio, The Story Lab announced details of their new entertainment format, “The Spin”, the first title to be launched by their recently announced global strategic co-development alliance.

An exciting new twist on the studio physical game show, The Spin is a simple, yet hugely entertaining format; jam-packed with hilarious challenges, high energy dizzy game play and non-stop surprises. The perfect viewing solution for all the family.

A team comprised of five players must step up to The Spin, the huge spinning machine, competing individually in two-part challenges over a series of five rounds to collaboratively build and take home their ultimate prize pot.

But there’s a twist…. In fact, there are several…. in every game!… as the teams never know what’s coming next. Strapped into The Spin’s iconic spinning set, resembling a giant gyroscope, our players are spun at varying speeds, delivering the contestants into the game zone to face their challenges with no knowledge of just how fast they will be spun or just what challenge they will face next. The faster the spin, the dizzier the contestants, the tougher the challenges!

This highly anticipated project first launched in Japan on Fuji TV on 23rd March 2021. Fuji TV and The Story Lab are now bringing “The Spin” to the international marketplace for the first time this October, at Mipcom 2021.

It has been jointly developed by the two companies, working alongside top UK producer and long-term Story Lab partner, Rumpus Media. The adaptation and international roll out will be managed by The Story Lab, with Rumpus Media retaining the production rights for the UK.

Fotini Paraskakis, Global MD Content for The Story Lab comments: “We are delighted that this project will now be launching this Mipcom. “The Spin” is a fantastic example of how we can work collaboratively to create fresh, scalable and highly entertaining game show formats that really do combine global appeal and Japanese creative innovation. We are really looking forward to further collaborations from this partnership with Fuji TV”

Ryuji Komiya, Head of Format/Producer, Global Business, Fuji Television Network, Inc. Adds: “Joining forces with The Story Lab has been a great opportunity for us to build on the success of our formats around the world. We are really excited about launching “The Spin” this Mipcom. Iain Wimbush, Joint Managing Director, Rumpus Media, adds: “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to be a part of this project.  “The Spin” is a ridiculously fun studio game show, with great visuals and simple structure that appeals to all audiences worldwide, it truly has potential to travel fast. We are so happy to see this go to launch”

Fuji TV and The Story Lab first announced plans to enter a co-development partnership in February 2021.  The partnership is focused on creating original entertainment formats that are scalable and returnable. International distribution of all titles launched by the partnership to be managed by The Story Lab.
