“Like Father Like Son” wins Cannes Jury Prize

Fuji TV’s film “Like Father, Like Son” directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda and produced by Chihiro Kameyama, Hatanaka Tatsuro, and Tom Yoda has received the Jury Prize at the 66th Cannes Film Festival.

Announced on the final day of the prestigious festival, Mr. Steven Spielberg, serving as head of Jury announced Kore-eda’s win. This is the first Japanese film to receive an award in the competition division at Cannes since 6 years ago. In fact, the last Prix du Jury awarded to a Japanese film was in 1987, with director Rentaro Mikuni’s “Shinran: Path to Purity”.

The film depicts two families who learn that the child they have brought up for six years is not their biological son, due to being switched at birth. Leading actor Masaharu Fukuyama and Lily Franky star as the fathers, along with mothers played by Machiko Ono and Yoko Maki.
