We are thrilled to announce that “Gunkanjima -The Abandoned Island Frozen in Time-” has been awarded the top prize at the 4K Tokushima Movie Festival 2015 in Kamiyama. The award ceremony took place on the last day of the Festival on December 5.
In July 2015, Gunkanjima, or the island of Hashima was registered as a World Cultural Heritage Site among the Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution. “Gunkanjima -The Abandoned Island Frozen in Time-” introduces to viewers Gunkanjima’s nostalgic past through photos and video, comparing it to its state in the present, as well as the stories behind life on the island and in the coal mines utilizing forefront technology of drones and computer graphics in full HD 4K video.
A total of 60 programs were submitted to this year’s competition and 20 finalists were nominated. Among them, “Gunkanjima -The Abandoned Island Frozen in Time-” received the highest acclaim and won first place at this film/video festival for 4K content.
