This live-action adaptation brings to life the story often called the "origin" of Japan’s celebrated animation director Makoto Shinkai.

Directed by rising filmmaker Yoshiyuki Okuyama, the film follows 18 years in the life of Takaki Tono—from his poignant childhood meeting Akari Shinohara, a transfer student he shares a deep bond with, through his high school years on Tanegashima Island, to his late twenties working in Tokyo—delicately capturing the passage of time and enduring emotions.
