Q: What was your honest reaction when you received the offer to star in this series?

I was doubly surprised—first that a new series of “Absolute Zero” was starting, and then that I had been chosen to play the lead. Since it’s such a high-quality drama, I felt I could step into it with confidence, and I was delighted to take on a new role.

Q: After reading the script, what impression did you have of this series?

I realised again that the starting point of involvement in cybercrime can be something as simple as a young person wanting to make some pocket money. But once you step into it, you can be held hostage through your family and trapped in a situation you can’t escape. Through this drama, I hope we can convey the true fear of cybercrime.

Q: This is your first appearance in a Fuji TV drama series in 35 years, and your very first time in the Monday 9 p.m. slot. How do you feel about it?

When I heard it’s been 35 years, I thought, ‘Has it really been that long?’ I feel truly honored to be part of this project. My attitude toward work is the same no matter which network I’m with. I’ll also be working with some people for the first time, and I hope to enjoy those new encounters while showing a new side of myself.

Q: Is there anything you’re mindful of in playing your character?

She is the kind of detective who can instantly get close to someone she’s just met and truly empathize with anyone. She’s someone who makes you feel safe just by being nearby. She has sharp observational and memory skills, which also help in investigations. Having spent a long time in the safety division for the community, she has listened to many people’s concerns, so, she naturally has a way of opening people’s hearts. For this role, I changed my hairstyle to a mushroom cut. I thought a short style would suit a detective—quick to manage, easy to get ready with. I cut about six centimeters at the longest part, and it’s been a while since I’ve had my hair this short for a role.

Q: Finally, please share a message with viewers.

With the true culprit hidden, we take on the threat of cybercrime that endangers public safety—together with a cast of unique new members. Please look forward to it!
