Takumi Kitamura Leads Fuji TV’s Monday Night Drama—Inspired by a Remarkable True Story!
Takumi Kitamura takes on his first-ever lead role in a primetime network drama with Fuji TV’s Monday 9 p.m. series premiering April 13!
The series is based on the miracle-like true story of students at a fisheries high school in Fukui Prefecture who dared to dream beyond the classroom — and ultimately succeeded in developing certified space food served aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Blending youthful energy with heartfelt emotion, the drama follows a rookie teacher played by Kitamura as he supports and mentors his students in their seemingly impossible challenge: creating “Japanese Space Food.” As the students push forward with determination and a “we’ll find a way” spirit, the teacher grows alongside them, discovering his own purpose in the process.
A Dream That Began With One Question “Do you think we could make space food?” With that single question, an unprecedented journey begins.
At the heart of this novelized original story saw canned mackerel developed by high school students officially certified as Japanese Space Food by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and later eaten by astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) — a remarkable achievement that captured national attention.
